Kylie Howarth - Kids' 5 Day Drawing Challenge

As many parents were panicking, going into lockdown, I too was wondering how I’d keep my kids busy.

Then I remembered the family drawing challenges we did during the school holidays - my kids LOVED them! They constantly begged for more. So going into lockdown, I drew up 5 days worth of challenges and decided to share them as free printables for other parents to use too. I shared the idea on Instagram, where I posted the illustrations my kids and I did each day and invited people to send me their drawings too.

The response was HUGE! Kids from all over Perth joined the Mr Squiggle style challenge and sent in drawings to post in my Insta stories. Many parents commented on how much their kids were enjoying the daily challenge of working out what to turn the shapes into. They also loved seeing what I’d drawn, as well as everyone else who was taking part. I soon discovered there were several BIG kids joining in too, with entire families taking up the challenge each day, as well as some established children’s book illustrators.

The creativity of the drawings coming through was so amazing, I had to step up my game for the final two days!
